Audi RS6 may produce more than 600 HP

Posted by ai 7:32 PM, under | No comments

At one time Japanese regulations prohibited engines in that country producing more than 274hp, and oddly enough a wide array of different engines were all rated at that same level. Given the actual performance of the cars, it was clear that many manufacturers were sandbagging. Audi appears set to do the same with its uber-powerful RS6. The twin-turbo V10 is expected to carry an official rating of 571 hp, but the actual output could be as high as 610hp. Does anyone actually need this much power in a sedan or wagon? Of course not, but sign us up anyway.

O.CT Tuning Audi R8 and Audi RS6 Avant

Posted by ai 5:33 AM, under ,,,, | No comments

Audi RS6 and R8 O.CT TuningAustrian tuning firm ‘O.CT’ has set its eyes this time on Audi’s range-topping sports cars, the R8 and the RS6 Avant. Starting off with the R8, O.CT has developed a custom made sport-exhaust system that helps the 4.2-liter V8 engine gain an extra 26 HP and 20 Nm of torque thus raising total output to 446 HP and maximum torque to 450 Nm.

Although there are no other modifications, the O.CT prepped R8 manages to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in 5.3 sec and to 250 km/h (155mph) in 31 sec outpacing the standard R8 by 0.3 and 3 sec respectively. Top speed is also up by 9 km/h to 310 km/h or 193mph. -Continued

Audi RS6 and R8 O.CT TuningLike so many other tuners, O.CT believes that the RS6’s 580 HP 5.0-liter V10 engine could use a few extra ponies. That’s why the Austrian tuning firm developed a new engine control unit (ECU) and a custom made sport exhaust system for the RS6 raises total output by 70 HP to 650 HP and maximum torque by 100 Nm to 750 Nm.

With this sport kit the O.CT RS6 Avant sprints from 0 to 100km/h (62mph) in 4.9 sec and to 250 km/h (155mph) in 23.9 sec undercutting the standard RS6 Avant by 0.5 and 3.3 sec respectively. As for top speed, O.CT offers buyers the option to choose between two settings, one that allows the RS6 Avant to go up to 300 km/h or 187mph or all the way up to 325 km/h or 202mph.

EVO Pits the Audi RS6 Avant against the R8 to see which is Fastest

Posted by ai 9:08 AM, under ,,, | No comments

Audi RS6 vs Audi R8British car magazine EVO has tested two of the most desirable Audi’s of our time, the RS6 Avant and the R8 to find out which is the fastest; the 580HP V10-powered family orientated estate or the 420HP mid-engined supercar. Officially, the German automaker claims that both cars post identical 0-62mph (100km/h) and 0-124mph (200km/h) times of 4.6 sec and 14.9 sec respectively, but let’s see what the GPS receivers of the VBOX had to say about that.

In terms of sprint times, the R8 is faster than the RS6 Avant up to 90mph as it needs 4.1 to go from zero to 60 (96km/h) and 8.0 sec to 90mph (145km/h) while the RS6 Avant stopped the clock at 4.3 and 8.3 sec respectively. From 90mph and above, the RS6 takes the lead sprinting from 0 to 120mph (193 km/h) in 13.8 sec and to 150mph (241 km/h) in 23.0 sec (R8: 14.6 and 25.0 sec respectively). The two cars manage to achieve the same time of 12.7 sec in the quarter mile sprint. -Continued

Audi RS6 AvantHowever, the R8 proves to be the ‘king’ of in-gear times crushing the RS6 Avant: 50-70mph in fourth takes 3.4 sec -0.3 sec less than the RS6, while 110-130mph in sixth gear, 7.2 sec or a whopping 2.6 sec faster than the Avant. Same goes for stopping power as the R8 came to a standstill from 100mph (160 km/h) in 4.1 sec and 289.9 ft compared to the RS6 Avant’s 4.3 sec and 299.4 ft.

EVO also tested the two range-topping Audis on the Bedford Autodrome race track. Once again, the R8 proved to be faster with a lap time of 1:26.5, or 1.4 sec less than the RS6 Avant.

Audi R8 WhiteSo overall, it’s safe to say that the R8 is the quickest -and apparently the more rewarding from a driver’s point of view. But, before you make any judgments, just hold on a minute and think about this; we’re talking about a luxurious, full size station wagon that combines supercar-like performance and enough space to haul your entire family and a fortnight’s worth of luggage…

Sportec Releases Performance kit for the Audi RS6 Avant

Posted by ai 3:40 AM, under ,,, | No comments

Following in the footsteps of so many other tuners, Sportec has announced that it too has released a sport package for the Audi RS6 Avant. The Swiss tuning firm’s Stage 1 performance kit (apparently Sportec will present more powerful kits in the near future) includes a reprogrammed ECU that adds 70 HP to the RS6’s 5.0-liter bi-turbocharged V10 raising total output to 650 HP at 6,300 rpm. Maximum torque has also been lifted to 740 Nm (546-lbs/ft) at 2,500-4,500 rpm. -Continued

Sportec says that with the Stage 1 performance kit the RS6 Avant can accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h (62mph) in 4.4 sec versus the standard car’s 4.6 sec and go on to a top speed of 305 km/h or 190mph. Buyers can also opt for a lowering kit and a set of 20 or 22-inch lightweight alloy wheels.

Audi RS6 Avant Tuned to 650 HP by IMSA

Posted by ai 1:20 PM, under ,,, | No comments

Audi RS6 Avant IMSA 650HPMostly known for its Lamborghini tuning propositions, IMSA decided to join in the Audi RS6 craze that has hit the German tuning scene by presenting a souped-up version of the range-topping Avant model. Modifications to the engine that include a remapped ECU and a new exhaust system boost the 5.0-liter V10’s output to 650 HP (from 580 HP) while torque has also been increased to 745 Nm or 550-lbs/ft. The result is a 0 to 100km/h (62mph) sprint time of 4.2 sec versus the standard RS6 Avant’s 4.6 sec. According to IMSA, the outrageously powered station wagon can accelerate from standstill to 200 km/h (125 mph) in just 13.8 sec and on to a top speed of over 300 km/h or 187 mph. -Continued

Additional modifications include a lower suspension setting and a set of ultra light 20-inch alloy wheels derived from the company’s tuning kit for the Gallardo that are wrapped around 275 performance tires.

    Video: Audi RS6 Sedan

Posted by ai 8:32 AM, under ,,,, | No comments

Equipped with a monster 580HP twin-turbocharged, 5.0-liter V10 engine that puts the BMW M5’s V10 and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG's V8 to shame, Audi’s RS6 Sedan is one of the most highly anticipated performance cars of the year. Now, just a few weeks before it makes its official debut at the Paris Motor Show, Audi decided to release the first video of the RS6. Unfortunately, the video only includes beauty shots as Audi has yet to reveal any driving shots of its insanely fast sports sedan. Follow the jump to check out the video or click here to see details and images of the RS6 Sedan. -Continued

ABT Tunes the Audi RS6 Avant to 700HP

Posted by ai 2:20 PM, under ,,, | No comments

Audi RS6 Avant ABTYou’d think that the standard Audi RS6 Avant’s 580HP turbocharged V10 5.0-liter engine would be more than adequate for most petrol-headed drivers. Well, apparently ABT doesn’t seem to agree as the German tuner introduced an insanely beefed up version of the RS6 (see sedan here) Avant that delivers an output of 700 HP and a maximum torque of 800 Nm or 590-lbs/ft (standard car: 580 Nm or 427.8-lbs/ft). According to ABT, the tweaked RS6 Avant can “fly” from zero to 100km/h or 62mph in a breathtaking 3,9 sec (standard car: 4,6 sec) and on to a top speed of 320 km/h or 199 mph. -Continued

As expected, ABT also offers a range of accessories for the RS6 Avant including 20-inch alloy wheels available in various designs, a carbon fiber front lip spoiler, a carbon fiber rear diffuser, a rear wing and a custom made rear muffler with four tailpipes in matt black finish.

New Audi RS6 Sedan Revealed, Gets 580 HP Twin-Turbo V10

Posted by ai 9:34 PM, under ,,, | No comments

Audi RS6 Sedan 2009Unlike BMW that introduced the M3 Sedan only to replace it a few months later with a facelift version, Audi patiently waited to present the revised A6 range (see details here) before it unleashed the almighty RS6 Sedan. Like the new RS6 Avant that was unveiled at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, the RS6 Sedan packs a twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V10 engine that delivers an output of 580 HP between 6,250 and 6,700 rpm and a peak torque of 650 Nm (479.42 lb-ft) available from 1,500 to 6,250 rpm.

Audi RS6 Sedan 2009Power is transferred to Audi’s rear-weighted quattro all-wheel-drive system through a six-speed tiptronic automatic transmission that allows drivers to change gears manually either using the shift lever or the paddles on the steering wheel. Audi’s ridiculously powerful sedan can go from 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in 4.5 secs (Avant: 4.6 secs) and on to an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h or 155mph, which can be optionally raised to 280 km/h or 174mph. -Continued

As with the RS6 Avant, the Sedan also gets a reworked suspension and standard Dynamic Ride Control (DRC) that reduces pitch and roll using purely mechanical means. When combined with the sports suspension plus, DRC offers a choice of three selectable damper settings – sport, dynamic and comfort – which can be activated through the MMI. Braking power is provided by 390 millimeter brake disks up front and 365 millimeters brake disks at the rear.

Audi RS6 Sedan 2009While it won’t go by unnoticed, the RS6 Sedan’s looks are relatively subtle for a car that packs so much power under its hood. Along with bulging wheel arches that house 19-inch alloy wheels as standard (20-inch alloys as an option) shod with 255/40 tires, the RS6 gets a more heavily profiled bumper with a revised grille, deep side skirts, a rear diffuser incorporating two large oval exhaust pipes and a spoiler integrated into the trunk lid.

Step inside and the first thing you’ll notice if you checked the correct box on the options list are the awesome driver and front passenger bucket seats seen in the pictures below. Otherwise you’ll have to be content with a set of deeply sculptured sport seats upholstered in Silk Nappa leather, with leather/Alcantara and Valcona leather available as option.

    Audi RS6 Sedan 2009

The Audi RS 6 will be launched on the market in mid-October with the starting price in Germany including tax set at 105,550. Standard equipment will include a dual-zone automatic air conditioning, a parking assistant at front and rear, an RS leather multifunction sports steering wheel with flat-bottomed rim and a Bose surround sound system.
